Driver Delivery Program

For Industry

Are you struggling to find and retain safe and competent drivers?

Our Driver Delivery Program (DDPⓇ) was designed in consultation with the transport industry to give the industry what it needs: highly employable, skilled new-entrant drivers who drive at low risk.

Get back to what you do best, focusing on recruiting individuals that are a good cultural fit for your organisation. We take care of training your new recruits through the DDPⓇ: a robust and comprehensive program that provides recruits with all the skills needed to drive a heavy vehicle for you at low risk.

The DDPⓇ

  • Is an evidence-based heavy vehicle driver training program which uses proven training methodologies.
  • Was developed around two psychology theories in order to help participants be more self-aware and maintain an attitude of accountability:
    • Casual attribution theory: the process of trying to determine the causes of people's behaviour - blaming others for events can lead to high risk behaviours.
    • Optimism bias: our tendency to overestimate our chances of positive experiences and underestimate our chances of negative experiences - this can dangerously lead to the false evaluation of one’s own true capacity levels.
  • Enables new-to-industry drivers to acquire the capacity to drive a heavy vehicle in a safe and low-risk manner in the urban and rural driving environments they will be expected to successfully negotiate on a daily basis as a professional driver, whilst contributing to positive road safety outcomes.
  • Provides transport organisations with confidence and peace of mind, knowing that their heavy vehicle drivers have been trained, assessed, and evaluated against criteria which reflect the actual standards required to meet needs of the industry.
  • Is fully auditable, ensuring that the program continues to deliver quality training outcomes.

The DDPⓇ is a highly successful program that has been used by leading Australian transport companies to ensure they have the absolute best, most competent and low-risk drivers on the road representing their business.

ADE Training Model

The ADE Training model was developed to apply all key adult learning and teaching[A2] . The use of ‘overlearning’ and the drip-feed approach is used to achieve ‘unconscious competence’ for any given skill or thinking framework.

Assessment Criteria Standards

The assessment criteria have been designed to measure a person’s capacity to drive a heavy vehicle at low risk. It is vital the assessment criteria are detailed and measurable, for the assessment outcome to be valid and reliable.

To drive a heavy vehicle at low risk, a person must have, and must apply all the skills, knowledge, techniques and thinking frameworks of driving a heavy vehicle at low risk, using the principle of ‘controlled driving’ (low-risk focus) as it is less open to interpretation.

Assessment Strategy

Pre-course on-road assessment; 60 minutes to check capacity levels to undertake the program.
